Making frames

One of the features I tried to emphasize in the recent show I did, was that each complete piece of framed artwork was as much an expression of the artist as the images themselves - that is, I not only painted each image, but I also created each frame for each image.  My goal was to make each finished piece as fully personal and unique as possible, so that the entire thing, frame and all, not just the image, would be seen as the art.  So I cut, routered, sanded, stained, and assembled each frame myself, and then also cut each piece of glass and every mat myself.   I even made all the easels myself!  So here's a few pics of part of the process, for those who are curious about it.

Raw stock - red oak, planed to thickness, ripped to width

Some pieces were ripped down for mini paintings

Twice through the table saw creates a rabbet cut on the back

 My hi-tech router table!

Ogee bit only partially raised to create a cove

 Cove done

Raise the ogee for the full cut

Ogee done, shown here on a wider board

Next entry I'll show some of the assembly.
